Sao Tome (Agenzia Fides) - The Bishops' Conference of Angola and Sao Tome (CEAST) hopes that the elections to be held on October 12 in Sao Tomé and Principe is an opportunity to strengthen the co-existence of the population. Speaking to the press in Luanda, the spokesman of CEAST, His Exc. Mgr. José Manuel Imbamba, Archbishop of Saurimo, noted that the African continent is "accustomed to disorders in relation to any type of election", but Sao Tome and Principe has its specific characteristics, which allow them to overcome any problem.
"It is a small Country - said the spokesman of CEAST - and I think that the differences that exist will always overcome thanks to the maturity of this nation".
"So our hope is that the elections will bring positive results to the people of Sao Tome, these results are needed for its development and for the building of a participatory, inclusive State, which must also be respectful towards the differences, but always seen as a benefit to the community as a whole" he concluded.
On 12 October the legislative, municipal and regional elections will be held, in Sao Tome and Principe. There is a population of 190,000 inhabitants, of whom 125,000 are Catholics. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 09/10/2014)
