Harare (Agenzia Fides) - "We want to strengthen and amplify the voice of the Church, facilitating better coordination of the various peace initiatives to promote free and peaceful citizens' participation in national life, in particular in the elections and the referendum", said Tendaiwo Maregere, director of the Ecumenical Peace Observation Initiative in Zimbabwe (EPOIZ). It is an initiative promoted by the Zimbabwe Heads of Christian Denominations, an ecumenical organization.
"Our aim is to bring together victims and perpetrators of violence and to educate them to the culture of peace", says Tendaiwo Maregere,.
According to reports from CISA agency in Nairobi, the program plans to send ecumenical representatives in all provinces to preach the values of peace and reconciliation in the light of the Gospel teachings, involving religious and traditional leaders and political representatives of the administration, business and the media.
Since 2000 Zimbabwe has been crossed by a profound political and institutional crisis, resulting from the discussion between the opposition and President Robert Mugabe, and a severe economic crisis, which continues to have serious consequences on the population. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 08/10/2014)
