San Diego (Agenzia Fides) - The exodus of Christians who have fled Mosul and the cities of the Nineveh Plain due to the advancing of jihadists and the proclamation of the Islamic Caliphate has caused a significant increase of petitions to the White House to ask for an increase of the number of visas to be granted to those who want to leave Iraq and emigrate to the USA.
As reported by the website www.kaldaya.net, the Eparchy of St. Peter the Chaldeans, based in San Diego, California, has been solicited by the White House officials to compile a list of Chaldean Christians eager to leave Iraq to escape persecution and conflict. In few days, more than 5 thousand forms with the names and personal details of nearly 25 thousand Iraqi Chaldeans wishing to obtain a visa for the United States were filled in the offices of the diocese, thanks to the intense work of 20 volunteers. The collection of the completed forms will be delivered to the White House in the coming days directly by Bishop Sarhad Jammo. (GV) (Agenzia Fides 11/09/2014)
