AFRICA/KENYA -“A new idea for Africa”: new professional training centre for young Kenyans in Malindi diocese

Thursday, 2 December 2004

Malindi (Fides Service) - On Sunday 5 December the Mons. Guglielmo Motulese Professional Training School will be opened at the Pastoral Centre of Malindi diocese. The centre will offer in 5 trades for boys and girls: cooks, waiters, gardeners, tailors and maintenance services. The centre will welcome 100 students, most of them saved from the street and precarious family situations.
The centre was built and equipped thanks to an Italian association “Amici di Malindi e Dintorni” whose members are professionals who love the land, people culture and the history of Kenya a country afflicted by serious social, economic and structural problems. The Italian programme aims to foster economic and cultural development of the local people. The initiative is part of an on-going programme for cultural, formative exchange among young Kenyans and young Italians from the south of the country to promote mutual knowledge of their different history, culture and traditions so different and yet so similar both being from the south of their country .
