ASIA/CHINA - Celebration of the sacraments and missionary mandate after Summer catechism courses

Pechino (Agenzia Fides) – A group of 108 catechumens, mostly aged between 5 and 16 years but also a few in their sixties, members of the Xi Kai Cathedral parish in the diocese of Tian Jin, recently received the three sacraments of Christian Initiation (baptism, confirmation and Eucharist) after completing of Summer courses of Catechism . According to information sent to Fides, after an intense Summer period dedicated to evangelisation, catechism and other pastoral activities in mainland China numerous Basic Christian Communities celebrated baptism, confirmation and first communion of children and adults who had prepared during the Summer months.
At Holy Rosary parish Sunday school in Jiang Zhuang, Xian Xian diocese (today known as Cang Zhou), in He Bei province, 13 children, “little Christian witnesses “, made their First Holy Communion”.
Bishop Meng, of Tai Yuan diocese, in the month of August visited various parishes and Basic Christian Communities, conferring the Sacrament of Confirmation on a total number of 1,058 young students. The Bishop encouraged them to live the Christian spirit and be “sentinels of the dawn for Christ” with the power and the grace of the Holy Spirit received in the Sacrament.
At Tian Jin Cathedral on 22 August during a solemn celebration, some 20 altar servers and 29 lectors of Holy Scripture received the missionary mandate after completing a Summer course of instruction. Many parishes, having ended Summer catechism, have begun Autumn Catechism classes. For example on Monday 25 August Tian Jin Cathedral, inaugurated the annual catechism course consisting of two lessons every week . (NZ) (Agenzia Fides 2014/09/06)
