ASIA/HONG KONG - Appointment of three Auxiliary Bishops of Hong Kong

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On July 11, 2014, the Holy Father appointed three Auxiliaries for the Diocese of Hong Kong (China): Fr. Michael Yeung Ming-cheung, Vicar General of the Diocese of Hong Kong and Member of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum, Fr. Stephen Lee Bun Sang, Vicar of Opus Dei for East Asia and Fr. Joseph Ha Chi-shing, O.F.M., former regional Superior O.F.M. in Hong Kong. Fr. Yeung Ming-cheung was assigned the titular see of Mount Numidia, Fr.Lee Bun Sang was assigned the titular see of Nove and Fr. Ha Chi-shing was assigned the titular see of Simittu.
Fr. Michael Yeung Ming-cheung was born in Shanghai on December 1, 1946. Once he finished hisì elementary and secondary schools, he started working in a company of imports and exports. In 1972, at the age of 26, he entered the major Seminary to study Philosophy and Theology. He was ordained a priest on 10 June 1978. He has served in a number of pastoral and administrative roles: 1978-1980: parish vicar of Ha Kwai Chung district, New Territories; 1980-1982: masters degrees in social communications from the Syracus University, U.S.A; 1982-1986: Director of Communications of the Diocese; 1986-1989: Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes; Chaplain of the Yu C.K. Memorial College; 1989-1990: Master in Philosophy of Education, Harvard University (USA); 1990-2003: director of the diocesan office for education and schools; 2003-2013: director of Caritas Hong Kong; 2009-2013: Vicar General of the Diocese of Hong Kong. Since 2003: Member of the Pontifical Council “Cor Unum”.
Fr. Stephen Lee Bun Sang was born on November 10, 1956 in Hong Kong. He attended University in England, first at the Oxford Polytechnic (1976-1977) and then at the School of Architecture in London, and obtained a degree in architecture in 1981. During his university years he experienced the spirituality of Opus Dei.
After his studies he worked as an assistant at the John Harris Architects studio in London and later in the office in Hong Kong.
Soon he decided to leave work and enter the Seminary for philosophical and theological studies in Hong Kong and in Rome at the Collegio Romano della Santa Croce. He was ordained a priest on 20 August 1988. He is incardinated in the Personal Prelature of the Holy Cross and of Opus Dei. In 1990 he obtained a doctorate in canon law at the University of Navarra on the theme: Relaciones Iglesia-Estado en the Republica Popular China.
After a brief pastoral experience in the Philippines, he returned to Hong Kong, where he served in a number of pastoral and administrative roles: 1990-1991: Director of Tak Sun School, in Tsim Sha Tsui; 1991: Defender of the Bond at the Diocesan Tribunal of Hong Kong; since 2009: Collaborates with the Mission of Study; since 2011: Vicar of Opus Dei for East Asia.
Fr. Joseph Ha Chi-shing, O.F.M., was born in Hong Kong on March 4, 1959. After his High School education at a Catholic school, he entered the novitiate of the Franciscan Friars, where he professed his solemn Vows on August 27, 1988. At that time he took courses in Philosophy and Theology at the Seminary of Hong Kong, after which he was ordained priest on September 9, 1990. From 1990 to 1993 he was sent to Rome to study spiritual Theology and Franciscan Culture at the Antonianum. From 1993 to 1997 he continued his studies of Pedagogy of religion at Loyola University of Chicago, in the United States.
He has served in a number of pastoral and administrative roles: 1997-2004: Ministry in the Parish of St. Francis in Hong Kong; 2004-2007: Priest of St. Bonaventure in Kowloon; 2007-2013: Priest of Our Lady of the Angels in Kowloon; 1999-2007: Professor of Spiritual Theology at the Seminary of Hong Kong; 2008-2010: consultor of the Commission for the Church in China and a member of the Council of Priests of the Diocese of Hong Kong; 2010-2013: Regional Superior O.F.M. of Hong Kong. Promoter of vocations and responsible for the postulants and novices. Since 2013: Parish Vicar of the Church of St. Bonaventure in Hong Kong. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 12/07/2014)
