AMERICA/PERU - Appointment of the Bishop Coadjutor of Puerto Maldonado

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On July 8, 2014, the Holy Father appointed Rev. Fr. David Martínez De Aguirre Guinea, O.P., advisor of the regional Dominican vicariate Santa Rosa de Lima, as coadjutor bishop of the apostolic vicariate of Puerto Maldonado (Peru). He has been assigned the titular see of Izirzada.
Rev. Fr. David Martínez De Aguirre Guinea, O.P., was born on January 10, 1970 in Vitoria-Gasteiz (Spain). After his primary and secondary studies at Marianist Santa María Ikastetxea school in Vitoria-Gasteiz, he attended the Higher Institute of Philosophy in Valladolid (1993-1995) and then the Faculty of Theology in San Esteban, Salamanca (1995-1998). He holds a licentiate in biblical theology from the University of Deusto, Bilbao, and attended a course at l’Ecole Biblique et Archélogique Français of the Dominicans in Jerusalem (1998-2000). He took his perpetual vows on September 18, 1993 and was ordained a priest on 11 December 1999.
Since his ordination he has held the following positions: 1999-2000: Ministry at the Parish of the Incarnation of Bilbao; 2000-2001: Ministry at San José de Koribeni (Cusco), in the Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Maldonado, and Professor of Biblical Theology at the Seminary of the Vicariate; 2001-2014: as priest at the parish of Inmaculada Concepción de Kirigueti and as Head of the Mission of Kirigueti; 2004-2014: advisor of the regional Dominican vicariate Santa Rosa de Lima, in Peru; since 2010: Head of the “San Pedro Martir de Timpia” mission and member of the directorate of the “Jose Pio Aza” cultural centre in Lima.
