AFRICA/CAPE VERDE - Appointment of the National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - On February 18, 2014, Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed rev. Joao Augusto Mendes Martins, of the clergy of Santiago de Cabo Verde as National Director of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in Cape Verde.
The new National Director was born on January 12, 1966. He was ordained a priest on 28 July 1991. He holds a licentiate in theology at the Higher Institute of Theological Studies in Coimbra (ISET), affiliated with the Catholic University of Portugal. He is currently the parish priest, Vicar general of the diocese, a member of the College of Consultors, of the Secretariats for Vocations and Communications, as well as diocesan Director of the PMS.
