AFRICA/CHAD - "We must choose between corruption and the generosity of the Christian faith": Message for the 50th anniversary of the Diocese of Pala

Thursday, 27 March 2014

N'Djamena (Agenzia Fides ) - "Our Church must choose between mediocrity and corruption which are becoming more and more popular in the Country and the generosity the Christian faith asks for". This is the strong appeal launched by His Exc. Mgr. Jean-Claude Bouchard, Bishop of Pala (Chad) in his message for the 50th anniversary of the erection of the diocese.
In the message, sent to Fides Agency, Mgr. Bouchard invites the faithful to engage in the life of the Church.
The Bishop stressed the evangelizing work of the early missionaries. "The missionaries - the message continues - first of all came to spread the Word of God, but their commitment to the development and the help they provided meant that many probably came to Church because they were attracted more by material goods than the spiritual aspect".
Mgr. Bouchard therefore calls on the faithful to overcome this mentality, because "the life of the Church is primarily in the hands of its sons and daughters, and not just those of Bishops and priests.
The mission of proclaiming the Good News is the mission of all the baptized".
The jubilee year of the Diocese of Pala began on March 23 and will end on 1 May 2015, the anniversary of the ordination of the first two Bishops of the diocese. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 27/03/2014)
