Tuesday, 18 March 2014

Sao Tome (Agenzia Fides) - On 15 March, the first Plenary Assembly of 2014 of CEAST concluded, the Episcopal Conference of Angola, Sao Tome and Principe, which for the first time was held in the equatorial archipelago. The final statement, sent to Fides Agency, says that the Bishops discussed, among other things, the theme "Reviving faith in Christ in the lay faithful", that will be the focus of the second year of the three pastoral years 2014/2016, and a pastoral note on lay movements. In this regard, CEAST noted "a certain anarchy in the proliferation of various lay movements" and recommends that these are "always formed taking into account the Magisterium of the Church and with the explicit approval of the local Ordinary, in order to strengthen the spirit of communion". Among the final recommendations, the Bishops ask everyone to work for self- sustenance of the Church and stress the importance of the First National Eucharistic Congress in 2016 to mark and celebrate the second phase of the evangelization of Angola.
