AFRICA/ZAMBIA - Appointment of the Bishop of Mansa

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, on November 30, 2013, appointed Rev. Fr. Patrick Chisanga, O.F.M. Conv., former Minister Provincial of the Friars Minor Conventual in Zambia, as Bishop of the Diocese of Mansa, in Zambia.
The new Bishop was born on May 16, 1971 in Kamuchanga, in the Diocese of Ndola. Once he finished primary school in Buyantanshi and junior school in Mufulira - Ndola, he was admitted to the Minor Seminary in Ndola. In 1990 he entered as a postulant in the Order of Friars Conventual Franciscans. After completing his studies in Philosophy and Theology, he professed his final vows in Nairobi in 1998. He was ordained a priest June 27, 1999 .
After ordination he has held the following positions: 1999-2001: Pastor of St. Michael and Noah Parish in Kitwe; 2001-2002: Formator at Bonaventure College - Regina Pacis in Chawama-Lusaka; 2002-2006: Studies in Psychology in Rome, at the Pontifical Gregoriana University; 2006-2008: Guardian and Formation Director of Theology students at the Makeny Friary in Lusaka; at the same time, Professor of Psychology at the Bonaventure College in Lusaka; 2008-2012: Provincial Minister of friars Minor Conventual Franciscans of the Province of Zambia and Malawi. He is currently a professor at the St. Bonaventure College in Lusaka. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 01/12/2013)
