AFRICA/SUDAN - 7000 inhabitants in South Darfur do not have drinking water and basic services

Adila (Agenzia Fides) - More than 7,000 residents in Mazroub, north of Adila, South Darfur, are short of basic services. According to information from local Radio Dabanga there is no doctor in the entire area. Patients only have a first-aid healthcare center of the Military Petrol Guard Unit. There is also no drinking water and, currently, the population drink rain water collected during the rainy season. Only last week a humanitarian organization managed to bring a bit of water with tankers. The schools in the area are closed because there is no established programmed and no teachers. In the neighboring area of Dereiga, there are about 700/800 students without regular schooling. The Teachers, many of whom live far from schools, come and go also because their salaries are not paid. Radio Dabanga wanted to spread a message to the central government and civil society organizations saying that the situation is getting worse and people in Mazroub are in urgent need of humanitarian aid.
