Wen Zhou (Agenzia Fides) – To leave one’s congregation and go to the outskirts of the diocese to give witness to faith, to evangelize and to consolidate the union of the community: these are the objectives that drove the Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the diocese of Wen Zhou, to embark on a unique pilgrimage by bicycle. For four days (from October 27 to 31) they visited rural communities of the diocese, the homes of the elderly, churches ... According to information gathered by Fides Agency, two priests of the parish Le Qing accompanied the 37 nuns, who offered spiritual support and logistics. The nuns, around 42 years of age, traveled more than 200 kilometers in terrible weather (heavy rain, cold) and geographical conditions (they had to cross the mountain) always trusting in the protection of Our Lady, for "a pilgrimage of faith, evangelization, of community spirit".
The diocesan congregation of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the diocese of Wen Zhou, in Zhe Jiang province in mainland China, was founded in 1990 by a diocesan priest Fr. Wang Zhong Fa. The nuns are engaged in the field of youth ministry, the promotion of women, the sick, the infirm and the elderly. They also help the priests in their pastoral mission, especially for the animation of the liturgy and the organization of retreats for lay people. They have also given rise to a lay group called the "Living Water". The sisters run a nursing home for the elderly and produce sacred objects (and video) for their livelihood.
