ASIA/MYANMAR - Appointment of the Bishop of Hakha

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father, on 19 October 2013, appointed Rev. Mgr. Lucius Hre Kung, of the clergy of Hakha, Vicar General and Parish Priest of the Cathedral as Bishop of the Diocese of Hakha (Myanmar).
The new Bishop was born on February 4, 1959 in Hnaring in the Diocese of Hakha. After primary school, he attended the minor Seminary in Mandalay. He studied Philosophy and Theology at the National Major Seminary, first in Mandalay and then in Yangon. He was ordained a priest on 23 February 1989 and incardinated in the Diocese of Hakha. He then held the following positions: 1989-1997: Priest in Tedim; 1997-2006: Priest in Hnaring; 2006-2010: Vicar of Forania in Hakha; since 2006: Pastor of the Cathedral; since 2010: Vicar General.
