Guatemala City (Agenzia Fides) - In Guatemala there are over 2371 children and adolescents who are HIV-positive and have AIDS, only 800 of these receive adequate care. As there is no reliable data on the number of infections, the number could be higher. According to the expert of Health Care and Education of UNICEF, Guatemala City, Escuintla and Izabal are the three departments where there are the highest number of HIV-positive children. Cases of children who are infected were also recorded in 22 departments and 334 municipalities of the Country. Only few of them benefit from treatment due to the lack of information and family socio-economic reasons that compel children to abandon the treatment. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 02/10/2013)
