Alajuela (Agenzia Fides) - Thanks to the program "A desk for your school", which promotes environmental awareness with recycling activities in 321 public and private schools, 4,350 students from around the Country have tetra pak desks. The schools serve as collection centers for the packaging of tetra pak, which is sent to the recycling plants of Dos Pinos, in El Coyol de Alajuela, in the Costa Rica district that is situated less than 20 km from the capital San José. Each ton of recycled packaging prevents the cutting of 18 trees, which means that those 4,350 school desks have saved 3,132 trees. In the school of Villa Bonita of Alajuela, ecological desks have the name of the child that contributed to their creation. In two years, 867 school students have recovered 5,317 kilos of tetra pak. Another example of this activity is the school República de Bolivia, in Santa María de Dota, where its 500 students have collected 6,320 kilos of tetra pak which was then transformed into 158 desks.
