Montevideo (Agenzia Fides) - A new headquarters of the Spanish NGO Fundación Telefónica, committed to the prevention of child labor, has just been inaugurated in Montevideo. The educational center, equipped with modern facilities and advanced technology includes showrooms, offices and classrooms equipped with whiteboards, tablets and notebooks. The headquarters is part of the project Pronino that the Fundación Telefónica has been carrying out in Uruguay since 2001 with the aim to prevent child labor through education. The project involves more than 180 schools around the Country. Since the project was launched, the Foundation has worked directly with 20,000 children and has invested more than $ 4 million in programs for social activities in Montevideo, home to half of the 3.3 million inhabitants of the country. In October 2012, it signed an agreement with the Government of Uruguay to reintegrate about 40 thousand children in the educational system. These children are currently working in this small South American nation, mainly engaged in the collection of garbage. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 02/07/2013)
