Monday, 25 October 2004

Kampala (Fides Service)- The National Direction of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) with the Episcopal Commission for Missions in Uganda is hosting this year’s regional meeting of the National Directors of English speaking Africa NDESA. The meeting will be held from 26 October to 2 November at a Retreat Centre run by the Sisters of Mary Reparatrix in Entebbe, Father Augustine Lukenge, national PMS director in Uganda told Fides.
The Secretaries General of the Pontifical Society of St Peter Apostle Mgr Jose Galvez and the Pontifical Society for Holy Childhood Fr Patrick Byrne SVD will also attend the meeting. The latter will stay on to meet the Bishops of Uganda during a plenary assembly of the Ugandan Bishops’ Conference.
The members of NDESA are National Directors from the Anglophone African countries of Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Sierra-Leone/Gambia, South Africa, Sudan, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Like in other regions of the same ‘lingua franca’ the DDESA meeting is an annual event which rotates from one country to another. Last year it was hosted by Tanzania. The meeting gives an opportunity to national directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies to study and share new possibilities for mission animation and missionary cooperation, to visits places of interest in the hosting country and come in contact with other customs and people and local Churches.
