ASIA/THAILAND - Salesian Father appointed chairman of South East Asian Catholic Press Association

Bangkok (Fides Service) - Indian born Salesian George Plathottam from Guwahati, a priest and journalist, was elected chairman of the South East Asian Catholic Press Association during the 20th International Catholic Press Congress held recently in Bangkok. Accepting the responsibility Father Plathottam said he hoped in particular to increase networking, promote integration among the different countries of S. E. Asia, render Catholic press more professional in its ask of promoting the values of justice, peace, human dignity and truth.
The Association, part of the International Union of Catholic Press, represents five countries: India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and Nepal. About 400 delegates from 90 countries attended the Congress to reflect on the theme: “The media and the challenge of cultural and religious pluralism. For a new social order, for justice and peace”.
