AFRICA/CENTRAL AFRICA - "Chaotic situation, who can must escape"

Monday, 15 April 2013

Bangui (Agenzia Fides) - "There are soldiers and armed men everywhere and several civilians are trying to escape elsewhere," says to Fides Agency Mgr. Dieudonné Nzapalainga Archbishop of Bangui, capital of the Central African Republic, where between 13 and 14 April, at least twenty people were killed in clashes between the military coalition Seleka (which took power on March 24 overthrowing President François Bozizé) and the inhabitants of two neighborhoods in the city. In the fighting a rocket launcher also hit a Protestant church.
"I am doing the rounds of the areas affected by the fighting to see for myself the conditions of the inhabitants. The situation is really chaotic," concluded Mgr. Nzapalainga. (L.M.) (Agenzia Fides 15/04/2013)
