EUROPE/ITALY - Press Conference presents International Meeting on “Just sharing: World Unbalance in Healthcare” organised by Italian NGO CUAMM Doctors with Africa

Tuesday, 19 October 2004

Rome (Fides Service) - The difference in health conditions of people and the situation of healthcare in different parts of the world is clamorous, unnecessary and above all, it can be prevented. Every year 10 million of the world’s children die: 90% of them in Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa in only 42 countries of the globe’s 192 countries. It is estimated that 95% of the world’s children killed by AIDS are African and Asian: Africa 2.4 million and Southern Asia 440.000.
What can be done? It is possible to obtain a rapid improvement of health and health care for people the south of the world because most of the diseases afflicting this part of the world are pathologies which can be effectively treated.
To increase awareness of the situation of different levels of healthcare in the world, CUAMM Doctors with Africa has organised a meeting “Just sharing: unbalance in Healthcare” 20 October in Rome. This is an information campaign with a difference, a wager on the possibility of seeing healthcare cooperation and health policies from the point of view of the poor, of the many people in danger of remaining irreversibly excluded from access to good health.
