ASIA/CHINA - "The Evangelization of the New Era": Seminar for the Year of Faith of the Diocese of Tai Yuan

Wednesday, 16 January 2013

Beijing (Agenzia Fides) - "The Evangelization of the New Era" was the theme of the Seminar for the Year of Faith of the Diocese of Tai Yuan, which took place on January 12th with over 500 participants. According to what Faith of He Bei reported to Fides Agency, His Exc. Mgr. Meng Ning You, Coadjutor of the diocese, presided over the seminar and focused his speech on the bringing up to date a passage from the Gospel of Luke: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, this is why he has anointed me and sent me to bring glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord "(cf. Lk 4: 18-19). The Bishop explained that the "poor" of today are the poor in spirit, heart, moral, faith; "prisoners" are those unable to get rid of hatred; the "blind" are those who cannot see the orientation of life and "the oppressed" have desperate, spiritual and interior thirst. So the lay faithful "must accelerate their path of evangelization in order to spread the Gospel of Christ throughout China." The priests present also addressed several other issues, such as the missionary Decree of the Second Vatican Council Ad gentes; the meaning of evangelization in everyday life; the goals of evangelization today; the best method of evangelization in daily life; others issues related to mission and faith, as well as collecting suggestions and questions on evangelization.
