Wednesday, 13 October 2004

Rome (Fides Service) - AFMAL, St John of God Brothers Association for Distant Patients has been integrated as part of Italy’s national service of Civil Protection, alongside Fight Fighters, Armed Forces etc. This is important for both Civil Protection units which will have the support of this association of volunteer healthcare workers, and for the Association itself because it will have the opportunity to offer concrete service all over Italy and in other countries.
AFMAL promotes programmes of health care and development in Italy and abroad thanks to St John of God network of hospitals in Italy and the rest of the world. The association will train people to face emergencies at the national and regional level, particularly in Lazio, the Naples area, Sicily and Lombardy, all of which have St John of God Hospitals.
Voluntary work as part of Civil Protection is increasingly important and the aim is to work together to ensure that emergencies are met promptly and properly. (AP) (13/10/2004 Agenzia Fides; Righe:22; Parole:217)
