ASIA/TURKEY - ECUMENICAL SERVICE AND INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM FOR THE FEAST DAY SAINTS PETER AND ST PAUL

Antioch (Fides Service) – To mark the Feast Day of Saints Peter on Paul on June 29 an ecumenical Liturgy of the Word and an international symposium will be held in Antioch. The ecumenical service, attended by representatives of the local Orthodox Church and perhaps the Armenian Patriarch of Istanbul will be presided by Archbishop Edmond Farhat, Nuncio to Turkey. It will be held at St Peter’s Cave, a great cavity in the hills overlooking Antioch, a site thought to be the first church in the area. Hymns will be in Arabic and Turkish. Civil authorities will attend. It is expected that besides other Christians also Muslims will be come for the service as it has happened for similar ecumenical Christian events.
The four day 28 and 1 July international Symposium in Italian and English with the title Paul the Apostle – Tarsus and Antioch. Archaeology, History and Religion, is organised by the Institute of Franciscan Spirituality of the Pontifical Antonianum College in Rome in collaboration with the Mustafa Kemal University in Antioch.
Speakers include internationally known history and spirituality experts and professors of various universities: La Sapienza, Lateran and Gregorian universities in Rome; Sacred Heart in Milan; Federico II in Naples, State University in Bologna, as well as Turkish universities in Istanbul, Mersin and Antioch.
