Manila (Fides Service) - Archbishop Gaudencio Rosales of Manila has called on the people to pray for the deeply loved Cardinal Jaime Sin, hospitalised in Manila. Clergy, men and women religious, laity, movements, schools and associations are invited to unite in a national chain of prayer for the recovery of the ailing prelate.
Cardinal Sin, former Archbishop of Manila, aged 76, was taken to Cardinal Santos Memorial Medical Center with heart trouble, according to his spokesman Father Rufino Sescon. Cardinal Sin has been in a wheel chair for the past three years and he undergoes regular dialysis.
Jaime Sin was born on the central island of Panay in 1928. His father was Chinese and his mother was from the Philippines. For the past thirty years he has played an important role in the Church and in society. His intervention has been fundamental at difficult times in the recent history of the Philippines. In September 2003 having reached the age of retirement he resigned as Archbishop of Manila.
