ASIA/PAKISTAN - The Christian missionary injured moved to Sweden
Lahore (Agenzia Fides) - An air ambulance moved the Swedish Christian missionary Birgitta Almeby, 72 to Sweden, she was injured in a bomb attack in Lahore on December 3 (see Fides 04/12/2012). This is what Pastor Liaqat Qaiser, Spokesman of the "Full Gospel Assemblies Church" (FGA Church) to which she belonged tells Fides, informing that "yesterday, December 10, we accompanied her to the airport, where she was taken by plane, organized by the Swedish authorities. She was still in a state of unconsciousness. We are confident that in Sweden she can receive proper medical care and feel the closeness of her family and community of origin. We will continue to pray for her full recovery."
With regards to investigations, the Pastor says that "the police are still investigating, but so far there are no concrete results." According to Fides sources, police are investigating the Taliban groups active in Punjab. On Sunday, December 9, FGA Church and the other Christian churches in Pakistan prayed during the celebrations, Masses and liturgies for the missionary injured, invoking God's blessing on her.
Birgitta Almeby, aged 72, had been in Pakistan for 38 years, where she managed a professional formation institute, a center for adult literacy and an orphanage. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 11/12/2012)
