Tuesday, 12 October 2004

Warsaw (Fides Service) - The national director of the Pontifical Mission Societies in Poland Father Jan Piotrwski told Fides about recent initiatives to increase mission awareness and missionary cooperation among Catholics. The PMS office has been busy preparing material for the traditional Mission Week which in Poland begins with World Mission Day, this year 24 October. Handbooks, posters and other items to facilitate animation are distributed to parishes and communities all over the country for use during 7 days of missionary initiatives involving adults and children clergy and mission animators.
Also in view of Mission Sunday, Diocesan PMS directors met from 19 to 22 September in Lichen to discuss mission awareness and identify new forms of missionary cooperation. The participants based their reflection on Pope John Paul II’s post synodal exhortation "Ecclesia in Europa". On 2 and 3 October young people from all over Poland took part in the 4th Missionary Youth Congress. They reflected on the theme "Duc in Altum" (Lk 5,4) in order to discover their Christian identity and the need for personal commitment to mission.
"For the PMS in Poland efforts spread mission awareness and encourage cooperation with the Church’s missionary activity is a priority. We do this in collaboration with diocesan offices and religious congregations. Together we make every effort to lead Catholics in Poland to support mission Ad gentes, with spiritual and material aid and the sending of personnel", Father Jan Piotrwski told Fides.
