Rome (Fides Service) - Two persons, a Haitian and a local in the province of Montecristi north western part of the Island near the border with Haiti have died of Dengue fever.
There is growing concern because since the beginning of this year already 282 cases of dengue have been reported in the province of Santiago alone, the second in importance. There is no vaccine to prevent Dengue or break bone fever but most patients recover with complete bed rest for a week. However this haemorrhagic disease is the main cause of death.
Dengue fever is a virus carried by the Aedes aegypti mosquito and it causes high fever, severe headache, anorexia, gastrointestinal alteration and skin rashes.
