AMERICA/PERU - More than 1,200 missionaries at first Lay Missionaries Assessment Meeting in connection with Great City Mission “Remar Mar Adentro” in Lima

Lima (Fides Service) - On 8 October at Rosenthal School in Lima lay Catholics taking part in the Great City Mission “Remar Mar Adentro held a first meeting to assess progress made. Some 1,200 lay people from the districts of San Miguel, Pueblo Libre and Magdalena attended the meeting with priests, co-ordinators helping with this mission to re-evangelise the capital of Peru.
The main objective was to assess progress and to propose new ideas and initiatives to give new impulse to the City Mission not only with regard to logistics but above all on the level of formation, with the identification of new activities to maintain the enthusiasm of the lay missionaries.
Bishop Adriano Tomasi Auxiliary of Lima and Mgr. Armando Briceño, Dean of the sixth Pastoral section which organised the meeting opened the meeting. Both congratulated the missionaries for the excellent results with no few sacrifices but great enthusiasm.
After indications given by Father Luis Ayala, delegate from Christ the Priest, who illustrated the aim of the meeting, Father Luis Sánchez Contreras gave the opening conference “Christian identity: Ecclesiology and Mission”. The participants then former groups for reflection and to share experience and then identitifed new plans for the important mission of re-evangelisation entrusted to them. Suggestions included: a school for ongoing formation of the lay missionaries and prayer meetings or family prayers for the Great City Mission. (R.Z.)
