ASIA/INDIA - Resignation of the Bishop of Jhansi and appointment of successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on October 31, 2012 accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the Diocese of Jhansi (India), by His Exc. Mgr. Frederick D'Souza in accordance with can. 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law, and appointed Rev.do Peter Parapullil, General Vicar of the same diocese as Bishop of Jhansi (India).
Rev.do Peter Parapullil was born on December 2, 1949 in Perumanoor, Archdiocese of Verapoly, Kerala. He completed his studies in philosophy at the seminary of Alwaye, Kerala, and then went to St. Joseph's Seminary in Allahabad. He obtained a B.A. and an M.A. in English Literature at the Buldelkhand University, and a Diploma in Social and Religious Communication at the Gregorian University in Rome, attending a short seminar on the same subject at the Crec Avex Lyon, France. He then obtained a B.A. in Education at the Annamalai University. He was ordained a priest on 29 February 1976 in the parish of Gwalior and incardinated in the the Diocese of Jhansi. After ordination he has held the following positions: 1976-1978: Assistant Parish, Pakdilpur Mission; 1978-1979: Assistant priest at St. John, Lashkar; 1979-1981: Assistant at Christ the King Parish Church; 1981-1982: Rector of the Apostolic School; 1982-1992: Attorney and Rector of the Shrine of St. Jude, Jhansi; 1992-1993: Studies at the Gregorian University, Rome, residing at the Pontifical North American College; 1993-1999: Director of Social Work; 1994-1998: Member of Caritas India; 1998-1999: Director of Communications Sector; 1999-2005: Secretary of the Bishop, Responsible of the Pastoral Care and Archivist of the Curia; 2003: Vice President of Uttar Pradesh Utaranchal of SIGNIS India. Since 2005 he has been the General Vicar of the Diocese of Jhansi. From 2006 to 2012 he was also Pastor of the Cathedral of Jhansi and since 2012 he has also been Dean of Christ the King College, in Jhansi. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 31/10/2012)
