Buenos Aires (Fides Service) - The Archbishop of Buenos Aires, Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio Primate of Argentina, has invited the children of the capital to attend the traditional Children Mass for the month of October on Sunday October 10, as part of special events for the missionary month. This Mass has been held every year since teh the tradition started in 1988, the press office of Buenos Aires archdiocese informed Fides. While warmly inviting all children of every school, institute and parish to attend the Mass the Cardinal reminded them that they have a very important place both in society and in the Church and he says all they have to do is to imitate Jesus: "Dear boys and girls we will soon meet for the Children’s Mass to do what Jesus did: together we will build communion, unity and solidarity and worship God". He encouraged them to prepare for this important event "being loving children in the home, at school, in the parish, with friends and above all helping those in need".
The Mass will be held in the Vélez Sársfield Sports stadium beginning at 9am. While the children wait they will take part in animation with giant puppets and songs. At the end of the Mass there will be a collection of money boxes made by the children themselves containing offerings collected for “You do the same” solidarity campaign through various activities. The sum collected will support the activity of feeding centres for needy children in various parts of the capital. (RG) (Agenzia Fides 9/10/2004; Righe 16; Parole 216)
