Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - "I dream of a country full of joy and love for God, where we feel we are all brothers and we have a positive attitude in the face of difficulty": these are the words expressed by Cardinal Archbishop of Caracas, Jorge Urosa Savino, less than 30 days before the presidential election. The Cardinal launched an appeal for peace, emphasizing that it is very important that the campaign is conducted in a peaceful manner, respecting the rights of all and of each of the parties to avoid violence.
The note sent to Fides Agency, shows the feelings of the Archbishop of Caracas on the feast of Our Lady of the Valley, celebrated on Saturday, September 8. The Cardinal said that the Virgin Mary has an important place in the hearts of all Venezuelans, and "is always ready to help us." The Feast of the "Virgen del Valle" dates back to 1530, when the sacred image arrived in Venezuela, and is very much felt throughout the country.
The presidential elections in Venezuela are scheduled for October 7. The new president will be elected for a period of 6 years. Although the list of candidates presents 7 names, the favorites are only two: Hugo Chávez Frías and Henrique Capriles. (CE) (Agenzia Fides 10/09/2012)
