ASIA/INDIA - Resignation of the Bishop of Hazaribag and appointment of Successor

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on September 8, 2012 accepted the resignation from the pastoral governance of the Diocese of Hazaribag (India), by His Exc. Mgr. Charles Soreng, S.I., in accordance with canon 401 § 1 of the Code of Canon Law. The Holy Father appointed Fr. Anand Jojo, the director of evangelization and faith formation of the Diocese of Simdega, as new Bishop of the Diocese of Hazaribag.
Fr. Anand Jojo was born on May 17, 1959, in Minjiutgarha-Kutungia, in the Diocese of Simdega. He attended primary and secondary education at the parish school of Kutungia. Subsequently, he joined the St. Louis Minor Seminary of Ranchi (1980-1982). He did his university studies from St. Xavier's College, Ranchi, he also pursued philosophy at St. Albert's College, Ranchi (1982-1985), and theology at St. Joseph's Seminary in Mangalore (1988-1992). From 1985 to 1987, he completed a Bachelor's degree at St. Aloysius College, Jabalpur. He was ordained priest on April 24, 1992, in his parish of origin Kutungia, then for the Archdiocese of Ranchi. Currently he is incardinated in the Diocese of Simdega.
After ordination he has held the following positions: 1992-1993: Assistant parish and teacher in Vijaygiri; 1993-1997: In charge of Catechesis, Director of the Archdiocesan Faith Formation Team and Assistant Parish of the Cathedral of Ranchi; 1997-2001 : Assistant at the CBCI Offices in Delhi; 2001-2005: Studies in Rome to obtain a Licentiate in Catechesis at the Pontifical Salesian University; 2005-2007: Vicar General of Simdega Diocese ; since 2005: Director of Evangelization and Faith Formation and responsible for the guidance of the diocesan seminarians of Simdega.
