EUROPE/ITALY - “Europe, where are you for Africa? Between globalisation and terrorism”. New cycle of CUAMM Saturday ‘Doctors for Africa’ study days

Tuesday, 5 October 2004

Rome (Fides Service) - October 9 will be the first in the new cycle of CUAMM Saturday study days organised by CUAMM ‘Doctors for Africa’ to share with the general public reflections elaborated on themes and questions related to Africa, to the world of co-operation, news and programmes undertaken by this NGO based in Padua, Italy, to provide healthcare in Africa for the past fifty years.
This is an in depth study of the complex reality in Africa and in the rest of the world, starting from experience in the field, in order to involve the world of the economy, university, associations and civil society in the debate.
The first day of the series, “Europe, where are you for Africa? Amidst globalisation and terrorism” concerns the role which the old continent can and must play to promote the development of the peoples of Africa. The background to the analysis at the centre of the meeting is the difficult international context which appears to obliterate problems connected with Africa.
CUAMM ‘Medici con l’Africa’, today present in Angola, Ethiopia, Kenya, Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Uganda with 28 programmes of health care cooperation and also active in promoting a culture of solidarity in Italy and the rest of Europe, feels it has the duty to stimulate public attention and debate on this theme.(AP) (5/10/2004 Agenzia Fides; Righe:21; Parole:223)
