Caracas (Agenzia Fides) - On Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd September, all the churches in Caracas will become centers for food, medicine and equipment to be sent to those who in recent weeks have been the victims of natural disasters that struck the country and of the explosion in the refinery in Amuay (see Fides 27/08/2012). After his message of solidarity to the affected families, the Archbishop of the capital, Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, invited all residents to contribute through the collection organized by the Catholic Church. In a statement sent to Fides Agency, the Cardinal asked to bring to the various churches in Caracas, non-perishable food, medicine, clothing and other basic necessities, which will then be sent to areas of the peninsula of Paraguaná, where the explosion occurred, as well as in areas affected by torrential rains that hit much of the country in recent hours. The cardinal also addressed special thanks "to government and private organizations, different types of institutions and political orientation, and volunteers" that are working to resolve the crisis and to assist those affected.
