AMERICA/DOMINICAN REPUBLIC - Eight out of 10 children are victims of abuse

Friday, 27 July 2012

Santo Domingo (Agenzia Fides) - Over 80% of children and adolescents in the Dominican Republic are victims of physical abuse, sexual abuse and violence within their own families or at the hands of neighbors, in addition to being exploited at work. This is what is reported by the "Red de muchachas y Muchachos con Don Bosco", during a protest march which was attended by a large group of children accompanied by their parents, neighbors and other people. Unfortunately, the phenomenon continues unabated, indeed, in recent months it has registered a marked increase. (AP) (Agenzia Fides 27/7/2012)
