VATICAN - Foundation "Populorum Progressio": 203 projects are being examined in favor of indigenous, mestizo and Afro-American peoples in Latin America

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The annual meeting of the Board of Directors of the Foundation "Populorum Progressio" is being held in Bogota (Colombia), from July 24 to 27, assigned since its founding in 1992 to the Pontifical Council "Cor Unum", which will examine the funding of projects in favor of indigenous, mestizo and Afro-American peoples in Latin America and the Caribbean. As released by the Vatican Press Office, 203 projects were submitted this year for a total of $ 2,908,727 from 19 countries. The most "active" nations in the presentation of the projects were Brazil (59 projects); Colombia (42); Peru (15); Ecuador (16) and El Salvador (6), countries where the populations supported by the Foundation are more numerous . Projects from Haiti (12); Guatemala (5); Argentina (5); Bolivia (10); Paraguay (4); Chile (4); Cuba (5); Costa Rica (6); Mexico (3 ); Venezuela (2); Nicaragua (3); Dominican Republic (2); Honduras (2) and Uruguay (2) have also been presented. The Foundation, chaired by Cardinal Robert Sarah, President of the Pontifical Council "Cor Unum", is in a phase of renewal of its members and the secretariat. In the course of the meeting a project that contains possible elements of change in the method of work of the Foundation will be presented.
