Kinshasa (Agenzia Fides) - On the morning of July 6, Cardinal Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, visited the Université Catholique du Congo. In his speech, the Cardinal to the Rector and the Professors, said: "The excellent reputation of your institute, for its high level of training and its good results, has to encourage you to carefully monitor the quality of your programs, competence and reliability of the instructors, not to mention the discipline and the application of pupils. And, since this is a Catholic university, I urge you to respect this characteristic. The teaching provided, must be entirely consistent with the doctrine of the Church, especially in the ethical and theological field."
The Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples also highlighted that "the Catholic University is an important tool for evangelism," as emphasized by Blessed Pope John Paul II and confirmed by Pope Benedict XVI. University can and must make an important contribution to the African society in the field of education and the promotion of justice, peace and reconciliation, which are a priority for the country, stressed Cardinal Filoni, who urged the Study of the Social Doctrine of the Church to reach such goal. The Cardinal concluded his speech with this wish: "with the Catholic University of Congo, the local Church has a valuable tool to promote the pastoral care of intelligence and reason. But you are a link in a chain of universities and colleges of education, scattered in all provinces of the country. Since you are the oldest of all, I recommend you to create a network for the collaboration and exchange among you, in order to achieve in a harmonious manner your specific mission and therefore contribute to the formation of a good Christian leadership, capable of being 'salt and light' in the Congolese society."
