AFRICA/MOZAMBIQUE - Appointment of the Archbishop of Beira

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on June 29, 2012 appointed Rev. Father Claudio Dalla Zuanna, S.C.I., General Vicar of the P.P. Dehonians as Archbishop of Beira (Mozambique). Rev. Fr. Claudio Dalla Zuanna, S.C.I., was born on November 7, 1958, in Buenos Aires (Argentina), his family was originally from Valsugana, in the province of Trento and emigrated to Argentina and then returned again to Italy in the early '60s. After his primary school in his native country, he attended junior school at the Sacred Mission Heart in Padua, and then grammar school at the Missionary Institute Sacred Heart in Monza, educational facilities belonging to the PP. Dehonians. In 1979 he began his theological studies in Bologna, at the Antonianum, obtaining the Baccalaureate in Sacred Theology in 1983. He entered the Novitiate of the Congregation of Priests of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (PP Dehonians) in 1978, in Albisola Superior (Savona). He made his religious profession on 29 September 1978 and the Perpetual on April 24, 1982. He was ordained a priest on June 23, 1984. After Ordination he has held the following positions: 1984-1985: Educator at the Missionary Minor Seminary School Sacred Heart in Padua; 1985-1988: Collaborator in the mission in Invinha, Diocese of Guruet; 1988-1997: Educator of the young theologians in Maputo, Parish Priest of St. Francis of Assisi in Infulene, Coordinator of the Formation Commission of the CIRM-CONFEREMO and Provincial Councillor, 1997-2003: Engaged in the active pastoral in the mission of Nauela in Milevane, always in Guruet; 2003-2009: Elected for a first term as General Councillor of his Congregation; since 2009: General Vicar of his Congregation.
