Padua (Agenzia Fides) - After 3 long years of waiting, a new hospital in the district of Caia, in the province of Sofala has just opened. According to information Fides received, thus far health activities were carried out in tents. The hospital was renovated thanks to a project of the Province of Trento (Italy), of the Consortium of Associations for Mozambique of Trento together with Doctors with Africa Cuamm, it has 107 beds and provides health care to approximately 130 000 inhabitants living in the district, on the banks of the Zambezi River. It will also be a reference point for the population of the 3 neighboring districts (about 350 000 inhabitants), thanks to the recent route activated by a bridge over the river. On the eve of the inauguration the first operations were performed, two Caesarean sections. Even in Caia the watchword is "First the mothers and children" and, thanks to the reopening of the hospital, finally, the women of the area can be assured of a Caesarean section, in case of complicated delivery, without being forced to go to other hospitals further away.
