AFRICA/SOUTH AFRICA-Appointment of the Rector of the national major Seminary "St. John Vianney "in Pretoria

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on November 18, 2011 appointed rev. Simon Molewe Machingoane, of the diocesan clergy of Witbank (South Africa) as Rector of the national major Seminary "St. John Vianney" in the Archdiocese of Pretoria (South Africa).
The new Rector was born on January 7, 1969 in Motetema (Diocese of Witbank, South Africa). After his primary and secondary studies, he attended the "St. Paul's Seminary" in Hammanskraal (1990), then studied philosophy at the" St. Peter's Seminary" in Hammanskraal (1991/92) and theology at the" St. John Vianney Seminary " in Waterkloof (1993/96). He was ordained a priest on October 11, 1997 in Lydenburg. He obtained a licentiate in canon law (2004/2008) at the Pontifical Urban University. Among other positions held: he was Assistant pastor and Pastor, a member of several diocesan and national ecclesial bodies, Master of Liturgical Celebrations, Chaplain of the Catholic union of men and of the Daughters of St. Anne. From 1 October 2008 he is part of the team of trainers and teachers of the "St. John Vianney Seminary ", holding the posts of Dean of Students, Vice Rector and Pro Rector. (S.L.)
