AMERICA/GUATEMALA - Huge disparities between boys and girls rights
Guatemala City (Agenzia Fides) – A report concerning the "State of the World’s Girls 2011" has just been published. According to the Organization for International Planning of Guatemala it is obvious that there is great disparity between boys and girls in the country. The illiteracy rate is double in females, 24.4%, while males are 12.5%, besides the country has the highest fertility rate among adolescents aged 15 to 19 in Latin America. The report highlights, from January to June 2010, that the national hospitals have assisted 13 thousand and 193 deliveries regarding children and adolescents aged 10 to 17, and that 31.5% of girls had been raped before the age of 15.
