ASIA/INDIA - Appointment of the Rector of the inter-diocesan Seminary "Good Shepard" of Coimbatore

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, on January 14, 2011 appointed rev. Melchior Pitchai, of the diocesan clergy of Coimbatore as Rector of the inter-diocesan Seminary of Coimbatore (India) .
The new Rector was born on 1 January 1947 in Madhapalayam, Coimbatore, and was ordained a priest 35 years ago. He obtained a Bachelors degree in sociology and a Doctorate in moral theology in Rome at the Alfonsianum. He was Professor of moral theology at the Good Shephard Seminary of Coimbatore, from 1988 to 1996 and from 1997 to 2004. In 1996-97 he was Pastor at Christ the King Church, Katoor, Coimbatore. From 2004 to 2009 was the Procurator of the diocese and is now pastor of the Cathedral of Coimbatore. (S.L.) (Agenzia Fides 15/2/2012)
