AFRICA/BURKINA FASO - Erection of the new diocese of Tenkodogo and appointment of the first Bishop

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on February 11, 2012
erected the new Diocese of Tenkodogo, in Burkina Faso, making it a suffragan of the metropolitan see of Koupéla. The Holy Father appointed the first Bishop of Tenkodogo, Rev. P. Prosper Kontiebo, M.I., Deputy Provincial of the P.P. Camillians in Burkina Faso.
The new diocese of Tenkodogo (nom. lat. Tenkodogoën/sis/), includes 2 civil Provinces: Boulgou and Koulpeolgo. It will confine to the north with the mother Diocese of Koupéla, to the east with the Diocese of Fada N'Gourma, to the west with the Diocese of Manga and to the south with the Diocese of Dapaong (Togo). It will be a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Koupéla. The present parish church of Tenkodogo, dedicated to Queen Mary, will become the Cathedral Church of the diocese.
Rev. P. Prosper Kontiebo, M.I., was born on September 25, 1960 in Boassa in the Archdiocese of Ouagadougou. He professed his first vows on September 8, 1984, at the Congregation of the Clerics Regular, order of the Ministers of the Sick (Camillians), and his final vows in 1988. He was ordained a priest on July 7, 1990. After ordination, he has held the following positions: 1990-1993: Teacher at the Saint Camille Scholasticate and Treasurer of the Community; professional nursing studies at 'Ecole Nationale de la Santé Publique in Ouagadougou; 1993-1995: Parish Vicar of Saint Camille; 1995-2001: Superior of the Saint Camille Scholasticate and Master of the Novices and the Professed; 2001-2010: Pastor of Saint Camille. Since 2010 he has been Vice-Provincial Superior of the Congregation of Clerics Regular Ministers of the Sick (Camillians) in Burkina Faso. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 13/2/2012)
