AFRICA/BURKINA FASO - Appointment of the Bishop of Fada-N'Gourma

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - The Holy Father Benedict XVI on February 11, 2012 appointed Rev. Pierre Claver do Malgo of the clergy of Koupéla, already Rector of Inter-diocesan Seminary Saint-Jean Baptiste in Ouagadougou as Bishop of the Diocese of Fada-N'Gourma (Burkina Faso),.
Rev. Pierre Claver Malgo was born on September 14, 1954 in Dimistènga, Gounghé parish in the Archdiocese of Koupéla. He studied in his country and in Côte d'Ivoire, at the Catholic University of West Africa (UCAO), where he obtained a Licentiate in Biblical Theology. He was ordained a priest on July 7, 1984 and incardinated in the Archdiocese of Koupéla. After ordination, he has held the following positions: 1984-1987: Assistant priest of the Cathedral of Koupéla; 1987-1991: Studies for a Licentiate in Biblical Theology at the Catholic University of West Africa (UCAO), in Côte d'Ivoire; 1991-1999: Professor at the Inter-diocesan Major Seminary of Koumi Saint Pierre Claver, 1999-2000: assistant priest at Ars-sur-Moselle, in the diocese of Metz, France, 2000-2005: pastor of Saint Joseph Ouvrier in Goughin, 2005 - 2011: Rector of the Inter-diocesan Major Seminary Saint Jean-Baptiste in Ouagadougou.
The Diocese of Fada-N'gourma was erected in 1964, it is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Koupéla, it has an area of 47,618 square kilometers and a population of 1,476,577 inhabitants, of whom 85,768 are Catholics. There are 13 parishes, 57 priests (46 diocesan and 11 religious), 7 religious brothers, 73 nuns and 13 seminarians. (SL) (Agenzia Fides 13/2/2012)
