ASIA/INDIA - “Evangelisation in India in the Third Millennium” theme of National Meeting for Diocesan Directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies from 14 to 17 September

Bangalore (Fides Service) - “Evangelisation in India in the Third Millennium” is the theme of a National Meeting of diocesan directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies (PMS) in India to be held in Bangalore 14 to 17 September. The purpose of the Meeting, organised by PMS National Director in India Rev. Ignazio Siluvai, is to reflect on the sense of mission and evangelisation in this third Christian millennium taking into account the changed historical, cultural and social conditions brought by globalisation and identify new paths and initiatives for the mission of the Church in India.
Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelisation of Peoples, informed of the meeting has sent a message to the participants in which he encourages the PMS directors in their task to spread and strengthen universal mission awareness. He also underlines that missionary animation and cooperation are the main focus of the work of diocesan and national directors of the Pontifical Mission Societies.
Cardinal Telesphore Toppo, President of the Indian Bishops’ Conference will open the meeting. Speakers will include Archbishop Ignatius Pinto of Bangalore and Bishop Patrick D’Souza of Varanasi head of the Bishops’ Commission for the Proclamation of the Gospel. Special guest from Rome at the event, Rev. Fr Patrick Byrne, Secretary General of the Pontifical Mission Society Holy Childhood. The meeting will close with an address by Archbishop Pedro Lopez Quintana, papal Nuncio in India, on the theme “Theological Formation in the Missionary Dimension in Seminaries and Formation of Religious”.
