EUROPE/ITALY - Theological update on challenges facing mission today: 9th Course of ongoing Formation for men and women Missionaries promoted by the Pontifical Salesian University UPS starts on 20 September

Friday, 3 September 2004

Rome (Fides Service) - The theology faculty of the Pontifical Salesian University UPS is holding the 9th Course of Missiology which offers qualified updating of topical themes which challenge missionary activity and witness in the work of spreading faith in Jesus Christ. The Course will run from 20 September to 10 December and although it is organised like a semester at university level, no high school diploma is required for enrolment. The course of on-going formation is offered especially to missionaries, men or women, with experience in the field anxious to learn about new theological approaches in this sector. For five days a week participants will have morning lessons with university teachers, many with personal missionary experience. In the afternoons they may attend seminars, discussion groups, reflection on missionary testimony, visits to church centres of special interest.
The areas in which the different subjects are grouped, aim to reflect the present day needs with regard to evangelisation. Human society has always been marked by cultural differences but today the world is particular informed and aware of these differences and peoples are proud of them and want to maintain them. This is why the course is very attentive to suggestions from anthropology (n. 1). The language of theological reflection (n. 3) - never losing sight of mankind’s religious journey and, in particular, methodological and spiritual aspects of the path of the Christian adventure in history senza (n. 2) - must start from this new sensitivity. Particular attention is given to the pastoral dimension of theological reflection (n. 4).
The previous courses were attended by an average of 65 missionaries from all over the world and belonging to about 40 different institutes, as well as a few fidei donum priests and lay people. The course is intense but brief to facilitate missionaries who cannot leave their activity for long. For more information apply to Co-ordinator, Prof. Don Gianfranco Coffele (UPS) Tel.06-872.90.332.
