Dadaab (Agenzia Fides) –Even the "Catholic Agency for Overseas Development" (CAFOD), based in the UK, has urged the international public opinion to intervene immediately in aid of 10 million Africans who are facing severe famine caused by drought in the eastern part of the continent. According to humanitarian operators, this year the drought conditions in Kenya, Ethiopia, Somalia and Southern Sudan are the worst in living memory. Thousands of people seek shelter in refugee camps in Kenya and Ethiopia, the daily arrivals exceed the storage capacity of the same, every day there are about 1,300 refugees. Dadaab was originally created to hold 90 000 people, now provides a home to over 380 souls. They arrive exhausted after walking for days or weeks and even when they reach the camps, many children continue to die. The World Food Program is especially committed to providing nutritious and enriched meals to children to enable them to recover after their arrival. (PA) (Agenzia Fides 07/19/2011)
