AFRICA/CAMEROON-Appointment of the Rector of the Theological major Seminary "Paul VI" in the Archdiocese of Douala

Vatican City (Agenzia Fides) - Archbishop Fernando Filoni, Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, appointed Rev. Benoit Kala, of the diocesan clergy of Nkongsamba, Rector of the inter-diocesan Theological major Seminary "Paul VI" in the Archdiocese of Douala (Cameroon), on 27 May, 2011.
The new Rector was born August 29, 1952 in Bafang. After primary school he attended the minor Seminary in Melong, Bafou and that of Ste Therese in Mvolyé (1966-1976). He then studied philosophy and theology at the major Seminary in Nkolbisson (1976-82) with an internship at the Seminary in Melong (1979-1980). He was ordained a priest on July 3, 1982 for the diocese of Nkongsamba. He has held the following positions: Prefect of studies at the minor Seminary in Melong (1982-1984); Fidei Donum in the diocese of Yagoua (1984-1988). In the years 1988-1995 he continued his studies at the Institut Catholique de Paris and obtained a doctorate in Social Sciences, and was parochial vicar in Paris and Professor at the major Seminary in Nkong-bodol. In the years 1995-2000 he was Rector of the preparatory seminary in Mbanga, in charge of vocations, parish priest in Penda-Boko, a member of the Episcopal Council. Since 2000: Vicar general, health care Coordinator, Rector of the Cathedral, a Member of the College of consultants, Professor of Sociology at the major Seminary in Nkouékong. (S.L.)
