ASIA/BANGLADESH-After two years victims of the cyclone Aila still need help

Dhaka (Agenzia Fides) - Two years after the cyclone Aila, which destroyed south western Bangladesh, thousands of survivors are still in need of everything. According to Bangladesh's Disaster Management Bureau, the people affected in 2009 were 3.5 million, about 200 died and 7000 injured. "Unfortunately many of the victims have not yet received the assistance they need," says the responsible of the local NGO Humanity Watch in a statement to IRIN Agency. "Many are not yet able to return to their homes, and those who were able to, do not have sufficient income to allow them to have three meals a day, " said the national coordinator of ActionAid emergencies. According to a recent survey conducted by 10 international agencies, over 200 000 people are still in very serious difficulties, 50 000 still have to return to their homes and about 34% of households (over 108 000 people) have no access to drinking water.
